Steven Law has been a leader, strategist, and catalyst for change in politics and policy for over 30 years. His latest enterprise, The Credence Agency, is dedicated to helping public policy organizations, corporations, associations and individuals build their image and influence in Washington and pursue meaningful change.
As founder and former CEO of Senate Leadership Fund and One Nation, Law was the driving force behind victories in 50 Senate elections. Under his leadership, these organizations raised and invested $2.4 billion to elevate new leaders and promote free enterprise, pro-growth tax reform, strong national security, and limited regulation. Public policy investors consistently viewed Law’s groups as best-in-class for effectiveness and businesslike governance practices.
Law previously served as chief legal officer and general counsel at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, where he oversaw the Chamber’s litigation portfolio and built new compliance systems on ethics, lobbying, and international activity. Law advised senior management and the board of directors on legal risk, audits, sensitive personnel matters, and governance.
Law was nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be deputy secretary of labor. In that role, he championed new financial transparency rules for labor unions and drove departmental initiatives on pension security and overtime regulation. He also contributed to and lobbied for White House legislative priorities like immigration reform and trade agreements.
Law began his political career with U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), starting as McConnell’s legislative assistant on judiciary and campaign finance issues. He managed McConnell’s first reelection campaign in 1990 and then became chief of staff and top ethics adviser during the Senator’s chairmanship of the Senate Ethics Committee. Law served as executive director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee during Sen. McConnell’s chairmanship in the 1998 and 2000 election cycles.
Law has appeared on numerous news programs, including Fox News, CNN, National Public Radio, NBC’s Meet the Press, CBS’s Face the Nation, and C-SPAN. His comments on politics, campaign finance and labor issues have been quoted frequently in the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Associated Press, Politico, and Axios.
Steven Law received his Juris Doctor from Columbia University School of Law, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He earned a B.A. cum laude in music from the University of California at Davis. He has been a member of the Bars of New York, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Supreme Court.
